Growth of Worldwide Medical Tourism Market

The worldwide medical tourism market is estimately growing at a rate of 25-35% annually. The high cost of health care and long wait times for some procedures still remain the major factors for growth.

Immunotherapy is also known as biologic therapy or biotherapy. It is a kind of treatment that mobilizes specific parts of the body’s immune system to fight diseases, especially cancer.

Immunotherapy can be used in two ways:
    • To stimulate the body’s immune system to fight cancerous cells more effectively
    • Administering immune system components like man-made proteins for boosting the system.

Through giving a general boost to the immune system or by training it to fight cancer cells specifically, immunotherapy has been increasingly used as an aid for the treatment of cancers that affect the bladder, colon, prostrate, lung as well as leukemia, multiple myeloma, melanoma and lymphoma.

Types of Immunotherapy

   1. Monoclonal antibodies – They are man-made proteins of the immune system that are administered to the patient to effectively eliminate a specific part of the cancerous cell.
    2. Cancer vaccines – These generate a reaction from the immune system to fight cancer more aggressively.
    3. Non-specific immunotherapies – They provide a general boost to the immune system and can lead to a considerable improvement in the defense activity of the body.

Cancer treatments require a high degree of expertise and are very expensive in certain countries. International patients these days choose to travel to destinations like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Brazil, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, and China to receive affordable cancer treatments without compromising on the quality of service and attention.
