Asia is Enhancing Looks and Outlooks

Asia performed over 4 million cosmetic surgery procedures in 2011. The continent leads the world in this growing industry, an industry that people are turning to for better self-esteem and youthful looks.

Breast-Conserving Therapy (BCT)

Breast Conserving Therapy consists of breast conserving surgery followed by moderate doses of radiation to eradicate any remaining disease. The radiation is essential because even after BCT, there may be disease left in the breast.

The goal is to provide the benefits of mastectomy, but by conserving breast tissue and ensuring a low chance of recurrence of the disease in the operated breast. Though it is useful, it is not applicable to all categories of patients. A mastectomy is unavoidable for some patients. Lumpectomy, where only the cancerous lump and surrounding tissue is removed, is usually a part of BCT. Many people prefer breast conserving therapy, because it is not as invasive as mastectomy and is less radical.
