Your Healthcare Holiday Dollars go Farther in Thailand

Medical costs in the West are skyrocketing and patients are flocking to Asia to save, particularly to Thailand where outlays for treatment are generally five to ten times less than what they’d be in the US and Europe.

Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder where the body has high sugar levels. There are two main reasons why a person may get diabetes. Either the person's pancreas is not producing enough insulin or the cells are not responding to insulin.

Insulin causes cells to take up glucose from blood. There are three kinds of diabetes. They are mentioned below.

Type 1 diabetes – Here, the beta cells of the pancreas don't producing enough insulin. The patient may be forced to take insulin injections or resort to insulin pumps.

Type 2 diabetes – This is caused due to insulin resistance. The body is producing enough insulin, but the cells fail to make use of it.

Gestational diabetes – Pregnant women are affected by this type of diabetes. It is like Type 2 diabetes in that the body develops insulin resistance. The condition will often spontaneously resolve after childbirth.

Diabetes is a chronic disease and has no cure, but it can be effectively controlled with medication. Untreated diabetes can cause many complications.
