Growth of Worldwide Medical Tourism Market

The worldwide medical tourism market is estimately growing at a rate of 25-35% annually. The high cost of health care and long wait times for some procedures still remain the major factors for growth.

Heart Transplantation

Heart transplantation or cardiac transplantation is a major surgical procedure that is performed on patients who have a severe case of coronary heart disease or those who are facing ending stage heart failure. In heart transplantation a working heart from a recently deceased or a brain dead donor is implanted into the patient.

The patient's heart may be removed (orthotopic) or in certain cases left in to support the new heart (heterotopic). Patients will be given immunosuppresants so that their systems do not reject the new heart. Post operation, patients may have to contend with organ rejection, infections and sepsis. Heart transplantation is usually the last resort for people who have exhausted all other avenues of treating a damaged heart.
