Brazil Gets Credit For Helping Start Medical Tourism

Brazil originally opened up medical options for patients outside of the US! In 1999, Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein was the first outside of the US to be accredited by JCI.

Assisted Hatching (AH)

Assisted Hatching (AH) is a process that is used in the cases of in vitro fertilization (IVF)

In a natural pregnancy, when the egg is successfully fertilized, the outer wall of the egg starts to become thick and hard. This is a way to stop other sperms from entering the egg in order to prevent an overload of DNA. At this time the egg is travelling from the fallopian tube to the uterus. Once in the uterus, the thickened outer wall called the zona pellucida starts to break down to get successfully implanted onto the wall of the uterus. This is known as hatching. If the egg does not get attached, the woman gets her next period on time.

Similarly, Assisted Hatching is a process in which the zona pellucida of the embryo is thinned down in order to assist its implantation in the uterus, thereby increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy. This is usually done with the use of a very mild acid solution, a laser or by making a microscopic hole with the help of a very small needle known as microtool. After this, the embryo is transferred to the womb of the woman. Sometimes doctors may also prescribe antibiotics to prevent the development of infection in the embryo.

In vitro fertilization is an expensive fertility treatment. Most people cannot afford to repeat the process and need to have the best shot possible the first time around. Assisted Hatching is thought to increase the chances of pregnancy. The doctor decides whether it is required or not depending on individual cases. Places like Thailand, India, Greece, Brazil, Mexico, and Turkey offer expert and affordable fertility treatments. They also provide the requisite environment to a couple going through this stressful phase.
