Medical Tourism is Thriving in India

Especially in the country’s healthcare capital, Chennai, where the cost of treatment is sometimes 1/10th of what it runs you in America or the UK, and where scores of specialty hospitals attract an estimated 150 Medical Tourists every day!

Rotator Cuff Surgery

A group of four tendons and muscles that holds the shoulder joint together is called rotator cuff. Damage to this can cause painful movement and stiffness. When nonsurgical measures fail, rotator cuff surgery becomes necessary.

This surgery usually involves removal of loose fragments, freeing and making room for tendons, and sewing of torn edges if any. Rotator cuff can be repaired through an arthroscopy (where repair is made by inserting an instrument and the joint is not opened). A more complex problem may warrant an open procedure where the joint needs to be opened.

After the surgery, the arm is put in a sling and pain medications are given. Physical therapy is vital for post-surgical success and recovery time depends on the extent of repair.
