Growth of Worldwide Medical Tourism Market

The worldwide medical tourism market is estimately growing at a rate of 25-35% annually. The high cost of health care and long wait times for some procedures still remain the major factors for growth.

Hip Resurfacing

Hip resurfacing surgery is replacement of damaged femoral head (top of the thigh bone) and sometimes the socket where the hip meets the thigh bone with artificial implants. The major advantage of hip resurfacing is that it requires less bone removal compared to hip replacement. This makes any revision surgery in the future easy.

Patients are usually discharged home within three days of surgery. Physical therapy is advised and pain medications are given. At six weeks, patients regain full hip movement and can attend to the essential activities of daily living. Eventually, patients can return to sports and heavy labor after full recovery. Full recovery takes anywhere between three to six months after surgery.
