Americans Would Rather Travel Than Pay High Costs

Affordable, quality care apparently trumps the commitment to travel. Approximately 50 million uninsured Americans are choosing medical tourism rather than pay for medical care in the US.

Total Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement or total hip arthroplasty is a procedure where damaged hip is replaced with an artificial one called prosthesis. The most common causes of hip damage are wear off of hip joints due to arthritis, injury, or bone tumors.

The surgery typically takes up to 3 hours. After the surgery, pain medications, physical therapy, and activity and weight-bearing restrictions are advised. Patients may be able to sit within one to two days post surgery and are discharged within 10 days of surgery. Full recovery may take anywhere between three to six months. This depends on the overall general health and participation in physical therapy.

This surgery is very safe and an estimated 120,000 such surgeries take place in the US every year.
