Mammogram & Ultrasound

In a mammography, X-rays of very low energy are used to examine the human breast region for any lesions or microcalcifications. This helps in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. The machine used for this specific purpose is called as a mammogram.

A mammogram utilizes low dosages of radiation to obtain an image of any lesions or cancerous nodes. A radiologist is required to analyze any form of abnormalities found in a mammogram. Based on the findings of a mammogram, the radiologist may sometimes suggest an ultrasound. The ultrasound examination is done to further refine the masses found during mammography to better assist a diagnosis.
