Computed Tomography (CT Scan)

Computed tomography or CT scan also goes by the name of computer axial tomography scan (CAT scan). A CT scan is an imaging procedure that generates many two dimensional images of a 3 dimensional object by making sections. The process of slicing or making sections is called as tomography.

A CT scan machine uses X-rays to take several pictures of an object from different angles. These images are then combined together to form a three dimensional image. The procedure is painless and may require the patient to abstain from food or fluids for sometime before undergoing the scan. Sometimes a dye may also be used in oral or intravenous form to enhance the quality of images.
