LASIK/Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK or Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis is a kind of refractive surgery that can remove the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses. This procedure is becoming immensely popular and is used to correct Myopia, Astigmatism and Hyperopia. It is minimally invasive and is performed as an outpatient surgery. This procedure is now slowly replacing traditional Radial Keratotomy procedures.

Ophthalmologists use lasers to change the shape of the cornea, which allows the cornea to focus light correctly on the retina, improving visual acuity. Lasers are used to cut a thin flap of the patient’s cornea. This flap is then folded back allowing the surgeon to remove exactly the right amount of cornea tissue with excimer lasers. The flap is then put back in place and is allowed to heal naturally.
