Drawing most of its patients from the rapidly developing economies of India, China and Indonesia, Malaysia’s health tourism increased by 15% in 2013.

Corneal Transplant Surgery

Corneal Transplant Surgery is also known as Corneal Grafting or Keratoplasty and is only performed on patients whose corneas are too damaged to be corrected by artificial lenses. In this procedure, the diseased or damaged cornea is replaced by corneal tissue obtained from a donor. This transplant surgery has one of the highest rates of success and the risk of rejection and post-surgery complications are minimal.

The cornea is completely replaced during Penetrating Keratoplasty and partly replaced during Lamellar Keratoplasty. These procedures are used to treat patients having Keratoconus, scarred corneas, Corneal Edema, corneal infections due to contact lenses and complications due to past eye surgeries. Laser technology is being used nowadays to cut out donor corneas and to make incisions in the corneas of the receiving patients.
