Who is an ideal candidate
An ideal candidate would have a reduction of vision due to a cataract but not suffer from any other age-related sight-related diseases. The patient would have normal eye pressure and all eye history, and medication taken has been evaluated and cleared prior to surgery by the doctor.

Recovery

Recovery
Following surgery, you may suffer slight itching and mild discomfort, for which you can take a pain reliever. There may be fluid discharge coming from the eye, and the eye may be temporarily sensitive to light. For a couple of weeks you will be instructed to take anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic eye drops. Complete recovery should take no longer than one month during which you should avoid any strenuous sports or activities.

Risks / Complications / Side effects
Cataract surgery is generally considered a very safe medical procedure where complications are uncommon. However, possible complications to contemplate prior to surgery are the following:
• After-cataract (Posterior Capsular Opacification) clouds the posterior of lens capsule, but it can be removed safely using a laser device.
• A posterior capsular tear is a rapture of the posterior capsule in 2-5% of cataract surgeries. The rapture though can be safely managed.
• Toxic anterior segment syndrome is an inflammatory condition but can be treated quickly.
• Endophtalmitis is a serious infection of the intraocular tissues.
• Glaucoma is associated with inflammation.
• High intraocular pressure can ensue blindness
• Swelling of the cornea

After your surgery

After your surgery
Vision usually improves immediately following the surgery, but maximum effects are revealed when you receive your new prescribed eyeglasses approximately a month later. It is possible that a clouding of the lens will occur in months or years after the surgery, but this can be healed easily using a laser.
