Phototherapy (Light Therapy)

Phototherapy is a treatment for curing skin, sleep and even some of the psychiatric disorders. The patient is exposed to light rays, to induce therapeutic responses on the body parts. Apart from skin disorders, called as psoriasis, neonatal jaundice, eczema, seasonal affective disorder and delayed sleep pattern syndrome can also be cured using phototherapy.

The treatment process includes exposure of the patient to daylight, or simulating such condition by using light-emitting diodes (LED), lasers or full-spectrum light, that is controlled using different devices. The patient has to sit or work around a light therapy box. This box will produce the required spectrum of light that aids in the treatment of the ailment. Phototherapy is also called as light therapy or bright-light therapy.
