There's a 7 Out Of 10 Chance You Will Get The Best Medical Care In Asia

The MTQUA explored medical tourism hospitals by high-quality care and patient safety. With these criteria, they put together a 2013 list of top 10 medical tourism hospitals in the world-- and 7 of them were in Asia!

Duodenal Switch

Duodenal switch also known as billopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch is a bariatric surgery that restricts the intake of food by making the stomach smaller, and also encourages malabsorption of calories through the duodenal switch/intestinal bypass. It has been observed that this procedure significantly improves weight loss in people who are very obese.

The procedure involves the following steps:
   • Vertical or lateral 70 to 75% gastrectomy is done to achieve a tubular stomach.
   • The division of the duodenum after the pyloric valve.
   • The alimentary valve is created to carry food separately.
   • The billopancreatic limb is created to carry bile and other digestive juices separately.
   • A common channel is created at the end of these tubes where the food and the juices meet.

Making the stomach smaller automatically leads to less intake of food and also reduces hunger pangs. This part of the procedure is irreversible. Creating two separate tubes for the mobility of food and juices, which finally meet at the common channel restricts the amount of time that the body has to absorb fattening components like fats, starch and complex carbohydrates.

The preservation of the pyloric valve prevents the dumping syndrome as well as marginal ulceration that might occur.

This surgery works out to be almost one third of the same cost in Mexico and other medical tourism destinations, comparing to the US
