Meditation

Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a deep state of consciousness. It usually involves focusing the mind on an object or a chant of some kind. People who practice meditation regularly report bliss, clarity of thought and serenity.

Meditation is oriented inwards in that individuals do it by themselves. There are also other kinds of meditation that require an individual to be moving, walking, working or eating. A person who is meditating may make use of prayer beads to keep track of or remind himself/herself about some aspect of meditation. Meditation has been practiced from antiquity as a component of numerous beliefs and religions.
